I have just spoken with a friend here on Crete who this morning visited a pharmacy in Agios Nikolaos (Crete). Her regular medication was easily available (she bought six boxes). She said all the shelves were full so she asked whether they were having any problems getting stocks of any medicines. The pharmacist smiled, shook his head, and said "don't listen to the media". A not terribly representative sample but an accurate one.

The Lidl just west of Khalkis was out of gin yesterday afternoon.
(This could be because it was a) on special offer; b) I emptied the shelf.)

Otherwise, no probs with anything (although I am a bit baffled as to why Greeks seem to visit ATMs at the same time: periodically, there are long queues, but mostly not).

Sitting here all cosy in Cyprus. Watching all the TV reporters interviewing the Athenians and stall holders as well as some shope keepers. The overall impression I get is that there seems to be plenty of fruit and veg. However apart from the food outlets. The other shop keepers are suffering as are the manufacturers. The people are not buying like they used IE shoes, dresses, shirts, tools etc. All want cash and not credit.
I am also of the oppinion that Greece will win through and get extended credit without the cut to the basic pensions One of the points Merkal was insistin g on.

Fair winds folks.

Maybe they all arrive on the same bus?

This is the type of reporting that get me .

Greeks are reportedly queueing outside of passport offices across the country.
The Greek Reporter website is quoting officials that applications are up 50% from this time last year.
The queues outside the passport offices in the northern and southern suburbs of Attica are unprecedented. This gives us the impression that wealthy families want to be ready leave, depending on the country’s situation,”)

As if wealthy families haven't all ready got pass port .

It is nice to know that CYPRUS is supporting GREECE by wring off the €3.3 million that GREECE owes CYPRUS. Nice one.

Should they ALL do that then and let the Greeks get away with daylight robbery when they have so many assets they could sell to honour their debts? Others have had to do that. What makes the Greeks so special? Only when they show some willingness to rescue themselves from this situation will the rest of Europe hold any respect for them. Until then they are just cadging, annoying neighbours.

I have the feeling that you are not a european. Do you sail at all in Greek waters?

The reason that Cyprus supports Greece is because the are the same in language and culture. Some people call it "mateship" Remember also that Cyprus also went through the same scenario and now is stabalised.

Yes, I spend six months a year "Sailing in Greek waters" but I'm no Greek sychophant. They are often but NOT ALWAYS, lazy, fiddling and unreliable in MY 34 years experience of them. I only go for the weather and the scenery but over the years, I've made many, many good Greek friends both in Greece and the UK and ALL share my views of many of their countrymen. (Of whom, incidentally only 38.31% voted for "Oxi" in the so-called "Referendum"

Now, why did Cyprus have the same problem? Well, you said it: "Shared Culture"!

You also seem to defend corruption based upon what you call "Mateship". I would therefore recommend that you NEVER get on the opposite side of a legal dispute against a Greek, for you will LOOSE BIGTIME! However, most UK Ex-pats already know that!

If the Greeks are willing to show that, going forward, they are now willing to play by the rules, then I will support them. Otherwise, let the devil take them!

Returning Sunday for the rest of the summer, as a matter of fact.

I've heard about you! Another one "Gone Native"!

BTW: I believe that I've met the past poster you refer to. What exactly brought about his "Life Ban"? Must have been a TERRIBLE crime! Nobody seems to want to tell me except for some absurd little man (Scottish)saying that he "Killed someone's wife" but never returned my communications and another who claims that "the lives of his children were threatened".

Anyway, this is beside the point. Fact is, Greece obtained loans under false pretences and needs to repay them. The rest of us can not be reasonably expected to bankroll them anymore.

Vic,

Just when are you going to drop this phoney "Slavonic" pidgin English?

There are many inconsistencies in your "MIS-expressions" and when looking at your website, suddenly "Perfect English" abounds.

Leave it out from now on mate. Nobody is fooled anymore.

Vic is many things, but he is not fake and is putting nothing on with his posts. I hope he does not mind me saying but he is British and speaks with a London accent, but he does have some issues with spelling. So what, I can honestly say I have met few people as open, honest, helpful and trustworthy as he is, he is the salt of the earth, an ordinary guy with a heart of Gold.
As to his blog, that is sometimes written by his lovely partner Christine, and although Dutch she speaks and writes very good English. I think he deserves an apology from you, but that is of course your choice.

As to the other matter about people confusing you with Steve Cronin, in fairness to them this is an understandable mistake on their part. You do have similar posting style, you both share many of the same views. For example your dislike bordering on hatred of the BBC, Greece, The Labour Party, E.U. etc. Am sure this is a coincidence, you are certainly not alone in sharing those views on the forum.
In addition you started posting regularly here not long after Steve Cronin was banned, again am sure it was coincidence.
You also keep a boat in the Ionian, again am sure it is coincidence.

I notice that Steve Cronin's experience in Greece is recorded here
http://www.ybw.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-338503.html
'We have been cruising Greece on a casual basis since 1978 and more commitedly since 2001 '

I notice your experience in Greece is recorded here

'We have had this boat in Greece since 2001 and regularly visited and sailed here since 1978. When I talk about ordinary Greek people's attitudes, I think I know what I'm talking about.'

Again am sure this is all coincidence, but think you can understand how other people may assume you are one and the same person.

Agree with everything JordanBasset said. Both Vic and Christine are one of the nicest couples we've ever met. There's nothing fake about either of them and I doubt Vic could spell that word correctly (sorry Vic, I'll bake an extra cake to apologise for that comment) :encouragement:

You know nothing about me .what I know about you ,is that perhaps it better for you to be quiet as most know you should not be on this forum as you persistently cause trouble and resentment with your comments and I have seen your bad behavier since 1998 when I first joined .

All the best chrees bobt
