Yes they will "stand the distance", but like all boats, only if looked after. I suspect that a '97 - 03 Grand Soleil would take a lot more looking after than many other yachts. Is there a particular GS that you're interested in?
from what I have gathered from a few owners, production has been uneven to say the least: there are several hulls or building years where boats are showing unpleasant characteristics like structural bulkheads delamination, or weird weight distribution with the boat dipping by the bow by 20cm in average load conditions
unfortunately there is not (or at least I do not know of) any fast rule to guess which boat is correctly built and which is better left asidek; a case where a proper survey may save some unpleasant surprises /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Is this the right question? Perhaps you should ask whether you and your crew would stand the distance in it.
The boat may stand the distance, but something designed for long distance passage making, and with a good load capacity to take all the things you need for a long distance and a long time away from home (rather than a relatively light cruiser/racer) would make it much easier for you to stand the distance.
