I need a little of something to keep me going. Incentive for the new project and new to me waters. All i know is that the Irish sea can be rough at times and thats about it, oh aswell as i have never been on the sea before on a vessel but for a booze cruise in Spain which i think does not count as well as a fishing trip where i threw up for hours. I am looking forward to this and of course i will be getting experience etc and course/s done.

So how much experience would i need to do this on our own, me and my good lady and what course would should i go for ?

How do the seas get over to Douglas aswell. is there a best time of year to go over ?

As said this is a bit on incentive i need to look forward to sue to certain things in life and it will help for me to keep busy learning what i need to know etc.

Oh the boat is a Fairline Fury running twin AQ130`s

Have a read of this CF. Glasson is a tricky harbour as I understand.

Glasson Dock - Wales, NW England, IoM: pilotage, charts, photos and marine business listings

60nm run is not huge but if the boat has been used on inland waterways and not been put under real load…..it’s defo not a set off and hope scenario. I’d do few shorter good runs out of Glasson first and see how she goes.

Defo do a powerboat level 2 course….possibly on your own boat. You’ll need the nav skills for sure. No doubt Kwackers will travel ?

As for the Irish Sea….who knows but you’ll want a window of high pressure at least a good few days worth. June/ July are probably the best bet but who knows! Prevailing wind direction for IOM is mainly Westerlies or Southerlies so for your passage as below….there is a lot of “range” for the waves to build. The middle is normally better with longer wave lengths than the edges if that makes sense.

It’s a trip to build up to and I’d suggest do in company. Make some friends at Glasson perhaps ?

.cheers, I'll look at the things you pointed out. I will.be calling our Kwak for help . Also when I have rebuilt the engines it will be having a good few runs around the Lune. Mooring will.be back on the Lanky so a few trips to the Lune will be interesting. Hight wise for the huge amount of bridg.s

I'd get myself over to Fleetwood for the spring and Summer. Still needs good timing for tides, but much more flexible than Glasson.

Having said that, Glasson is a much nicer place to be alongside for any length of time.

As Mr G said, well doable given a settled forecast. Lack of petrol around harbours/marinas over here would need some forward planning though.

That is the only trouble with this boat is that its petrol and guzzles it. If my workings are correct i can get there and back on the tank fitted easy which is 60gallons. So the seller told me, that will be checked but at say 10knts and around 8 nmpg so 15 gallons. unless i boot it all the way so drop that to 2 mpg ha ha

@Mr Googler
what is that planner you use ? looks good.

The boat will be moored on the Lancaster Canal so got access to Glasson, it will have a trailer but maybe no tow car, not sure yet. But still mite aswell go from Glasson even if it is a bit more on timing, one more thing i will to learn.

Wayne be careful , the last time i went to Douglas we were just stopping on the way to Ireland . I was greeted by a welcoming party of a guy called Farsco , mr gogle and a guy called crocodile, well they said they would keep an eye on the boat while we went ashore for food . We came back they had gone next morning we left for Belfast with the boat cruising at 30 knots , which was not normal. Then on arrival i noticed the boat was above the normal waterline , then it clicked , they had stripped the boat of all the DRINK . the IOM might look like three legs but they are three arms for lifting your booty . SS

They will have no drink to find on here, i will of emptied the Bilge Bar on the trip across papping myself.

It's on a trailer. Bring it down to the Menai. Take a PD berth. Raise the Jolly Roger and call to Arms. When the rest of the flotilla answers we will raid Douglas en masse. Find you a nice pair of KAD 44's to put in for the return journey, with Tony Danza as your new galley wench cum bilge rat.

The IOM is the new dumping ground for scrap.
