Noisy and the output is not clean (electrically) O.K. for lights and basic tools but not for anything "electronic" or tools with controller "chips" such as variable sppeed drills and definitely risky for running a laptop or T.V.
Still I suppose some might be interested....

Saw a real beauty in B&Q last night, looked well put together, 1kw output, for not a lot more than that ones priced at, plus you can take it back to them next year if it doesn't start for you, go and look before you purchase.
got one from Makro, £39 +vat. checked outputs under various loads and v. good. As they drive an alternator the sine wave output is pure not like some electronically generated sine waves.Run video/tv etc no probs.why they are cheap is because of new laws re; 2 strokes.Mine starts OK, you need to switch petroil off and let it stop thro, lack of fuel, then you are not trying to start with carb. having more oil than petrol.
I have one of those. Bought for £49 from screwfix. Works absolutely fine (starts easily), including with variable speed drill. Great piece of equipment for boatyard work.
I might be wrong but my understanding is that 2-stroke gardening & DIY equipment are excluded from EU legislation for time being (like mopeds I think).
