First of all i would check that u need an external aerial.
My Garmin 45 works well inside the saloon of my Westerly Centaur which has a thick composite roof.
But I prefer to mount it in the cockpit where it is easily acessable, stepping down into the saloon frequently is a pain & whilst U R doing this who is holding the tiller?
