I need to get my 50M & 30M 10mm chain galvanised. I am in Portsmouth, does anyone know where to go for this and how much it might be?

I had my 65m of 10mm chain regalvanised in Scotland last Autumn, for just over £100. That may however have been at Mates Rates.

The knack is to avoid a minimum charge by adding it another order or getting a few others to make up one large batch - CQR anchors galvanise nicely!

We had our chain and anchor done in early 2019 by Joseph Ash in Kent. They charged 74p a kilo (the tackle weighed 325kg in total) and even collected/dropped.
They didn't have the special kit for chain, so it was just hot dipped but we didn't have any major problems afterwards (and couple of links had to be whacked to get them to move).

As far as I am aware nobody has a specialised chain re-galvanizing line now that Wedge have closed theirs. I would think that any galvanizer would do chain on a batch basis but I note the comment from Rappey above.

Yes Wedge no longer do it they contacted me today. Shame. I would be happy to share a load or loads with others if we can find somewhere.
What about buying new, how much should l be paying for calibrated 10mm - not Stainless! Any good cheap supplies out there?

If time is not of the essence, a pallet load to Cumbernauld, scene of Gregory's Girl and home of Highland Colour Coaters, galvanisers to the cognoscenti, may be cost effective but you may have to wait till Covid wains a bit more.

I don't think galvanisers much like dealing with Joe Public, probably get too much aggro. I took some trailer parts and an anchor to South East Galvanisers and the guy on the weighbridge was skilled in tooth sucking and head shaking and said it couldn't be done.

I work there. We do chain, but like others have said, find it difficult, and so charge a lot for it. The biggest problem is paint where people paint links as markers. Paint is a real problem to remove.
