Please could anyone stab a guess at how much fuel a 28ft sports cruiser, weighing in at 3 tonnes, would use?
She is fitted with 2 x Volvo 150hp diesels.
I have done a search but just keep getting confused! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Cheers

ha ha just trying to talk SWMBO into a twin engined boat that I have seen and rather fancy.
I am guessing that a single would use less?

But the question is how much?
Would 2 150's use a lot more than 1 x 300?

Oh, I get it, single!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

we use about 8 gallons an hour at 2200 revs 15 knots, on our two old 180hp sabre's, my mate does 6 gallons an hour at 2600 revs 20 knots on his modern yanmar 420 hp single, we weigh in at 6.5 tons, he at 3.5 tons. A single is cheaper becuase you only have the one bill for maintenance, but two is nice in case of breakdowns, but they are rare these days. So you pays your money and takes your choice. One thing is for sure whichever way you go it ain't going to be cheap.

On a more serious note ( which I find extremely taxing) 2 x 150's on an easily driven Hull?
4/5 galls an hour each. Max?
My 105 diesel shaft does 3.5 galls an hour.
Semi displacement hull.
Then again , thinking about it. (which I feel extremely taxing)
Shove the boat on the Plane and back off, maybe 3 galls each lump.?
Stick the Complete details of said boat in the mix.
There will be a member who will know.
Anyway ,stop messing abaout and buy the Boat You want.
If You want 1 engine then do it.
If You fancy 2 then get 2.
Long time Dead Mate.
Just spoke to a ( money no object geezer today in the marina) was a bit worried about the price of Fuel.
65 years old?
Not that healthy.

Not saying You are Old or unhealthy.
But You know what I mean!

Food for thought.
That passage plan web site is interesting.
We currently run a 23ft sports cruiser with a single 175hp petrol, she uses about 5 gallons per hour.
Guess we can't afford a new boat? But heck, if you think like that you'd never do anything.
Damn our government and the end of red!

Heres to our new 30ft twin diesel boat! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Iain, I think I mentioned this to you before, but on my Falcon 275 with twin 150's I reckon on a 22 to 25 knot cruise, I estimate that I use about 8 gallons an hour over the two engines. However as an average, bearing in mind there is alot of pottering about in and out of harbour, I only use around 2 gallons an hour over the two engines. Its a lot less than I thought I would get when I got this, my first power boat. I keep checking my figures every time I fill up and it always seems about right. The main consideration is not fuel with twins its the maintenance, depends on how much peace of mind you want.
