Not sure I'm in the right place here but I've just finished my web site using Microsoft Front Page to promote my boat but I can't get the hit counter to work. It just says [Hit Counter]. Any suggetsions?
I think I recall the same problem; it may be that your web server has to support Frontpage Server Extensions to run FP Hit Counter, which BT did not. Maybe NTL is the same, but I did find a hit counter on the BT site.
No doubt someone more knowledgeable will be along soon!
I'm glad you managed to get it to do a site for you. I found Front Page to be a truly dreadful program, perhaps the fact that your page is so simple is the key fact. Well done anyway.
Kim,
I also use Frontpage to maintain my boat site which is in my signature address. setting up a counter should not be a problem if you use a web based counter; when I get home I will send you a link or HTML off front page.
Cannot do at the moment as I'm meant to be working !
[/ QUOTE ]Nice, clean-looking page. I know that you already have a link saying "Email", but it isn't very obvious. It might be worth putting your email address prominently under the price - or, even better, a mobile phone number (people like to talk).
Should be berths, not births (in a couple of places)
Capital letters sprinkled about somewhat haphazardly.
When I look at it the headline "Cotillion a Westerly 28" falls across a blue:white horizontal split, which makes the black text of "a Westerly 28" difficult to read.
Sorry but the last thing I would do it put my address and telephone number on a website unless I was prepared to deal with the junk mail and direct sales / lottery call.
Personally I would not put up a hit counter, too few and people will know that no-one is looking at the boat, 2 many and people will want to know why it hasn't sold ie 1000 people can't be wrong.

The line should fall solely in the white zone (which it does on my browser). As for birth, I got me a grandson last week so maybe the slip up lies there but thanks to you and everyone else for your help.
I agree about forgetting the counter. Totally pointless.
The e-mail link would be better as an e-mail in the text. The spiders will pick up the e-mail address wherever it is in the code. (Hover over the link and the address shows bottom left)
Better to open a Hotmail e-mail address just for the advert and then forget about it when you've sold the boat.
Have you considered using Arial font? Touch bigger as well as not everyone has good eyesight.
It should do the trick.
But you've still got to get people to come and look at it.
Yes - change your email address to a bit of javascript that effectively hides it from email spammers - otherwise you'll be knee-deep in viagra within a fortnight.
I sometimes use this bit of javascript which seems to work quite well.
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
var theuser = "everything before the @";
var theisp = "everything after the @";
document.write('<a href' + '=\"mail' + 'to:' + theuser + '@' + theisp + '\">');
document.write('just put the person's name here</a>');
// -->
</script>
