free video editor?

I've used Resolve for video editing on a Surface Go, you don't need a big graphics unit to run this if it's properly configured unless you're actually rendering things (and most don't need to render, just encode). Any old chip can encode the video, but the speed of that will vary. Just make sure you set the resolution suitably low while editing.
Its worth trying on old systems as its free to do but I think when you install it it checks the computers configuration is up to their minimum spec so it might not install. Its a bit complicated to use as an editor on a machine which can't use any of the features, probably better to use a basic cut and join one like the one in windows if thats the case

Yes, no doubt your post from February 2021 helped them
?

I remember it well. (y)

Another thread that will not die.!

What is going on?

Apparently not that well...
I use Da Vinci Resolve as well as iMove. As you say the facilities are really good, especially for changing levels and sound throughout a clip, but you have to learn the tools , which are not teriffically intuitive.
There are loads of tutorials on YouTube. If you can find ones by British experts they are often much better than some of the US ones. Structured and progressive.
This is really helpful DaVinci Resolve: THE Total Guide to the Best Free Video Editor

I will often use iMovie in preference as things like titling have presets. In Resolve you have create more stuff.

Yeah, that's insane. But if you want all features you have to pay. What is the cheapest software to edit videos?
No the difference is purely in processing time and for an amateur this makes very little difference. On my system the difference in encoding between my i7 and my 2070 plus isn’t worth paying for given I only edit once a month or so. I’m not aware of any actual feature differences that would matter.

It's mainly in the item 3D tracking that's used for colour correction - but that's well above what many would use.

Indeed, I can’t imagine most will even colour correct as an amateur. I certainly don’t bother for my ~1000 subscriber channel!
