A long time ago at the end of my studies in yacht architecture I designed a few boats for amateur construction, not even at cost just for the pleasure of seeing them built; the first two were a prao and a 12ft australian skiff (both with monster sails).
The first builder did not manage to perfect his tacking ability in a simmetrical bowless-sternless boat and eventually crashed against a quay; the second builder pushed and pushed until trying the skiff in too much wind, really too much, and nothing else survived apart a terrorized builder skipper (he then built a second one and became more reasonable).
After those two I made a few other attempts to more sensible boat types and they fared better (a couple still sail), then life indicated a different (much more boring) path which admittedly is red-peppered daily by reading this amazing forum
