On my First 35s5 I have a roller-furling system on my forestay, and it is attached to the bow plate by two plates with a pin through them.

I would like to shorten the forestay, and put a better link in than the 2 plates.

Can I use a bottlescrew of some sort (with retaining pins to stop it turning with the furler)? Or is there a more appropriate rigging link I should use.

toggle?

apart from brute strength the important thing is that it should be able to pivot both fore & aft and athwartships which means you need some kind of toggle. without it the twisting strain will gause fatigue failure. my forestay went twice in mid-atlantic because of fatigue so it really does happen.

Whose make of furler is it? Reference back to the original manufacturer might help. My Furlex instructions are quite specific about use of e.g. bottle screws with the furler.
