For the love of God, can we have a separate ‘Anchors and Anchoring’ forum please?

I can’t take it any more.
Mods, if you create a separate anchor forum I will donate £100 to the RNLI and post proof I have done so on here.
We could have a seperate;
1. anchor forum
2. new boat vs old boat forum
3. VSR vs 1, both 2 switch forum
4. Lead vs lithium battery forum
5. Immast reefing vs slab reefing form

But where would the fun be in the that?
I bet you would still look at them all😅😅

We should accept everyone is entitled to their opinion and not continually snipe at other forumites. I don't want to mention name(s) but that sort of attitude wears pretty thin after a while.

I used to find anchor threads entertaining and informative, notwithstanding the element of argy-bargy that often arises.

Given the paucity of objective information, it's interesting and useful to see different people deploy their varied experience, knowledge and prejudices. I have certainly learned from the anchor threads over the years, and changed my views and practice on some of the products, issues and techniques as a result.

In recent weeks, though, the anchor threads have become tedious in the extreme. They have become dominated by one person with nothing discernably useful to add to the conversation, and other people allowing themselves to be drawn into repeatedly responding to him, despite it being clear that he is unwilling to meaningfully engage with others' concerns, expert advice and views. I think it would be better - for the purposes of exploring the particular topic and the general character of the forum - if people just ignored him. (I don't think he's actually a troll as such (unlike some on this forum) but, as with trolls, responding just encourages him, and doesn't provide the entertainment and enlightenment I look for.)

I don't think it requires a separate anchor forum, though. It's easy enough to just not read them.

I'll give it a while and dip into anchor threads again in a while, and see if they've escaped the unproductive closed loop they're currently stuck in, or are at least enlivened by a few jokes.

That's funny Clive, coming from someone who constantly tells people to stop posting what they think, or how they do things.

Edit. Just checked some old photos of my boat and there seems to be one securely fixed at the bow. Does that count.

I hope its not a grotty old CQR..... anyway moving along swiftly, when you next see us remind us to tell you about our anchor story, I dare not put it on here as it would start an anchor thread but its quite amusing

The final proof on the subject for me at least was highlighted a few years ago. Laying in the anchorage behind the Isla Culatra down by Faro with a score of yachts of all shapes and sizes and..different anchor types..a sudden and very drastic change in the calm, almost windless weather, saw all of us dragging!! It was wonderful, like a choregraphed Hollywood dance epic, all bound downwind towards Olhao like a fleet of Swans on a windy lake...:ROFLMAO:
People leaping about on foredecks, engines being started..what fun! No damage, a couple of errant (poorly secured) dinghies blown ashore up by the Nature Reserve and all happily re-anchored as the wind died away...and nobody claimed to have the Best Anchor:giggle:

A genuine CQR, certainly not grotty. Are there any other makes of anchor?

Oh, go on tell us your anchor story before the season starts. It will be good to get it off your chest.

Instead of a Two Anchors Forum, would a Neeves vs TNLI forum be better? Asking for a friend

As mentioned I stopped reading TNLI's posts some time ago - proving that with a little will power and plenty of other things to occupy my mind (ie I'm not bored) it is possible to be selective of what I read here.

I might agree with the suggestion if I could be assured that threads complaining about anchor threads were also, as a cast iron rule, consigned to the new forum.

What street cred or should that be sheet cred? Maybe I shall have to drag it out of you.
