Shame this wasn't more widely publicised - only 3 or 4 boats at Bembridge this afternoon have their ensigns half masted. I am sure lots more would do this were they aware of the Notice to Mariners requesting it.

It has been reasonably publicised, the Facebook site about Dunsfold & Kingston BAe where I used to work has mentioned today with a giant flag, several hundred members; don't know if councils are doing anything in town centres, but they ought to be.

When military procedures are blindly adopted by civilians who then go on to hold that said procedure is THE way to do something, yes there are many daft military procedures... and allegedly "correct" half-mast procedures are in that number.
Ditto civilians insisting there's a correct and incorrect side to wear a poppy.

We gave the prescribed prolonged horn here on there the Orwell, scared the pants off the French catamaran that was passing. Shame though, doesn't seem to be a lot of support.

I think it's generally known that today is the anniversary of an upper-crust billionaire aristocrat/'royal' parasite being done over, rather than the industrial slaughter of actual real people, which came a bit later..
