Hi all,

New to the site.

I'm looking for a new mooring for this year in and around Falmouth. I live in St Agnes and so Falmouth works well as a location as can get to it relatively quickly via the back roads. I had my boat on a tidal, finger pontoon last year although found it very restrictive, especially in the evenings when I wanted to go out after work.

I want a deep water mooring and am wondering where I should be looking? I have contacted Mylor Harbour and am on a waiting list although I'm not sure how much of a turnover of moorings they have and so am thinking I will have a long wait for something to come up. I am also waiting to hear back from the Greenbank Hotel as they have deep water fore and aft moorings and may have some availability.

My boat is an 18ft fast fisher with a draft of circa 30-40cm.

I'd appreciate it if anyone knows of anywhere that would be worth considering.

All the best and Happy New Year.

Welcome aboard Jonny. Have you tried Mylor YC? They have moorings (they're distinct from the Yacht Harbour) and may have some available. You'd have to join the Club, but that's no hardship! You may wish to send a private message - a 'PM' - to skyflyer on this forum for more information. Have a look at the Scuttlebutt thread 'Demand for Moorings Plummeting' and then click on the originator's name (skyflyer) and you should get an option to send a PM. Other possibilities are Truro HM (who has moorings as far down as Mylor) and Truro Boat Owners Association - also with moorings off Mylor. Good luck in your search.

Fantastic, many thanks for this. I will search that thread out and send a message. I did think about the Truro HM, however, I dealt wanted somewhere with parking too as I have two small children and so would be good to keep things as easy as possible when they come out on the water with me. I’ll look upskyflyer now and will send a message. Thanks again.

Found the details and sent a message. Just mentioned it to another friend who knows of the club but he thinks they will only take sailing boats. I’ll see what they come back with.

Best wishes and thanks again

I'm sure that MYC accepts motor boats too but no harm in checking. There's free on road parking but it's very limited - maybe about 6-8 cars. MYH has a car park payable on a day by day basis, or via an annual pass from the harbour office. If you decide to join MYC, there's an annual opportunity to purchase the car pass and/or water taxi pass at a reduced rate as the Club does the admin work on behalf of MYH.

Good luck in your search.

What about the 'other side'. St Just is a great little boatyard with deep moorings and the journey may be similar.

Beautiful location but I’d either need to get the King Harry ferry across or drive - it’s the best part of an hour from me whereas Falmouth takes 15 mins.

I have had a mooring on the Fal for just over 50years . Getting a deep water mooring is not a big problem . put your name on the list and wait (about 4 years ) ..... Parking is just about impossible after 9,30 am . Most boaters now find a space the previous evening and spend the night on board , but go ashore and pay the next day,or you will be towed. This of course means you cannot spend the next night up river, or in the Helford, Having a season ticket does not save you a space , Loe Beach gets a bit lumpy! but is proper cornish and friendly ..best of luck.

Have you tried John at Trevisomme Marine on the Penryn River? Nice, well protected spot and very reasonable price. The moorings out near the channel were deep enough for us at most states of tide.

Truro Boating Association takes motor boats and yachts. Small waiting list. Could try Restronguet Sailing Club who have a cruiser section with swinging moorings.
