electric paddle

I love the concept.
I often shirk away from getting out the inflatable because it is such apain to extricate the outboard from behind the stern locker. Rowing an inlatable is so hopeless that this gadget seems an option. However I note there is no wind in the demo film. I doubt that it would cope with a bit of breeze and a landing against the tide in an estuary.
Oh well perhaps I will stick to the old 2-stroke for a bit, unless your strong ethics on this would lead you to sponsor me in a long term test of the product?

In which case take a look at the Torqeedo http://www.electricoutboards.eu/en/torqeedo/travel-1003
Mine is brilliant!

Very neat and compact system but expensive compared to my Fladen trolling motor and golf trolley battery - that cost less than £200:

The Electric Paddle price of US$1099 in the US would end up close £1000 in UK after adding international shipping and VAT - similar to Torqeedo electric outboard prices. Quite a premium for good design.

Is it man enough for more than 1 man and his dog? As a tender motor it needs to be able to push at least 2 full grown adults, preferably 4 up wind in a F5-6 in moderately flat water. Or its no use to me...

See Torqeedo, post #4

It WEIGHS 8lb + 8lb for the battery = 16lb thats over 7 Kg
and what does it cost?

those light little boats in the vid were only crawling along in a flat calm.

Yamaha 2 stroke OB £100 on fleabay = 2Hp 9 Kg and will drive an Avon with 6 fat geezers in across a lumpy sea in a f6

NO CONTEST there then

quiet though

But why? She sails in a midge fart & even if dead ahead or flat calm, paddling J-stroke will soon get you where you need to go.

TBH, I have 2 outboards, but generally prefer to row my inflatable, even in a breeze or with the strong Welsh tides it is good exercise & not that hard.

Electric outboards. No matter how they spin the story you are stuck with 650watts + 1 horsepower at 100% efficiency.
650 watts ie 55 amps at 12v does not come easily from any battery. I like the NiMh battery as being lighter than lead acid but total power will still be quite small. As electric outboards go it may be very good and designed for canoes so low power but still no match for a pair of paddles or oars.
I have an older electric outboard in my shed. A neighbour was seduced by advertising for an electric outboard for his kayak. I gave him the outboard said try it, if you like you can keep it FOC. He tried it and still gave it back. NBG.he said.
I say forget it Dylan olewill
