The Elan 33 is a truly excellent boat. It achieves a very good trade-off between accommodation and performance and with reasonable to good build quality.
Agree with the previous poster.
I considered one when I bought my X-332 nine years ago. I was impressed with everything about the boat and it was a toss up between that and the X. In the end I decided that the X might hold it's residual value better.
A friend of mine bought one at the same time that I bought mine and he had no regrets.
My friend has an Elan 333 on which I crew regularly for racing. It's very competitive in our club races and sails well when cruising. It seems to be better screwed together than any similar BenJenBavs that I've owned or rooted around. If I were looking for something around that size it would be a strong contender.
The transom on these boats, contrary to usual practice on JenBenBavs, has no apparent joint or moulding round its perimeter. Does anyone know how they achieve this effect?
