Has anyone heard of, or managed to buy, an 'Eastern Rivers Licence' from Brit Waterways?

According to the EA web site, it's a bit like a trimmed down 'Gold' licence that covers both BW and EA rivers, but only those that flow into the Humber (plus the Witham). Sounds ideal for me.

Problem is that according to the EA, BW handle the applications for this joint licence, and according to BW, they know nowt about it.

Never heard of this one but if BW are responsible for issuing it, the season will be over before you get it.
I applied for a gold licence at the beginning of May and it finally arrived last weekend. Let me know if you have any joy, as I would be interested in one for next year.

You can buy a BW licence which covers the Trent, Fosdyke and Witham. I don't know if it would cover Yorkshire rivers. In my experience BW have upset their staff so much with reduceing the manning of locks that they do not worry too much about checking licences. If you have any old licence and quote the number to lock keepers, they are happy. The lack of lock keepers on the Trent is nothing short of criminal negligence. If you are not at least two handed and both reasonably fit it is not safe to operate the locks. They are electric but climbing up and down the ladders is not easy. The guillotine lock at Stamp End on the Witham is very tempremental (is it female?) and people have drowned in simple accidents, but it is now not manned.
All IMHO.

Finaly had a reply from BW...........

Dear Martyn

Thanks for your enquiry. In fact the joint BW/EA Eastern Rivers
Licence no longer exists. Your options are to take out a standard Gold
Licence or an Explorer Licence if you intend only occasional use.
Information about both is available, along with application forms, thru'
the following link on our website:
http://www.britishwaterways.co.uk/site/CraftInformation_1545.asp.

Shame they forgot to tell the Environment Agency to take it off their Web Site!!
