Late 50's in my early teens worked voluntarily during the summers at Llandrindod Wells boating lake - motor launches and rowing boats.
Early 60s - first ambition realised - became paid member of staff in the holidays so could drive the "STAFF" boat to tell people "your time is up". Suspect that newly found power was misused at times.
Also went on a trip on Norfolk Broads with 3 mates from school. Will be forever grateful to the latin master who signed the hire form for us and took responsibility, even though he was not on the trip. Hilarious time had by all.
Went and did other things for the next 30 yrs - think it was called work - but still bought MB&Y regularly for ogling purposes.
1987 persuaded other Director to allow company to buy waterside flat in S.Devon. Was given an old Seasafe dinghy with cuddy and Mercury 9.8 O'board and on the 2nd trip in it the engine expired, miles away from home. It had just been serviced, which gave me a good insight into what to expect in the future. Bought a new Johnson and life improved thereafter.

Did night school Ytmaster for piece of mind when taking kids out. This unfortunately led to SAILING hols. with course mates and still do a charter once a year though I'm begining to forget which bit of string does what.

Have found scuttling techniques to be far more spectacular and effective on mobos.
