Does the name imply that it's biassed ?

Re: Does the name imply that it\'s biassed ?

Absolutely right.

Whilst the Build 2 is in progress - all written in house so therefore all our IP - parts of Build 1 is bought in and we have to jump through hoops for every change. But yes, we are going to link a new Contact Us page to our own servers.

It's all a bit teccey for me, but the geeks have it in hand. At least we managed to get the registratin page done and that took just two months!

Re: Does the name imply that it\'s biassed ?

For this to be a commercial post I'd have started replying to all the posts as soon as I got in from work at 18-00 , I don't need to advertise here . Most on here have accepted that it was never intended that way , even the moderators , and so far everyone has been learning a lot and sharing information with others quite happily

Anyway , thanks everyone for your comments , especially the ones that answered the initial question , but there's no way I can respond to everyone individually or I'm going to get more daft comments , so ,
all suggestions about how to promote the site and make it work were taken into account some time ago , but up until recently there were problems with the site that meant they couldn't be kicked into action . The problems are just about resolved now and that's all I'm going to say publicly so if anyone wants to know more , let me know .

The original question is one that I don't think will ever get an answer that'll satisfy everyone , as has been pointed out , but thanks everyone for your comments

Dear Richard
David is out at work at the moment but before he left he asked me to keep an eye on this to see if there were any more helpful comments. I can assure you that there was definately no 'Troll' involved here,

[/ QUOTE ]

Louise,

I think you have misunderstood me..... I dont think Dave is trolling.... in fact I left a long reply with some of the things I would do to get things moving on the site.

There is someone else here who may, or may not, be trolling... I'll PM you.

Richard

I'll let her know she's got a message when she gets in Richard , she decided to go out with her mother earlier and doesn't log in often , for some reason she doesn't let me have her password either /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif and she rarely logs in , but I think I know what your pm will be /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I explained it to her when she told me she'd posted a reply

It's nice that she's somewhat protective of you, in the nicest way.

Cheers

Re: Does the name imply that it\'s biassed ?

taken the way it was intended thanks Richard , love her to bits and wouldn't trade her in for anything , although I have to admit she's not a great fan of the forum /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif which means I'm usually in the poop for being on here so late /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Does the name imply that it\'s biassed ?

SailRoom is a pun on Saleroom. It is also only 8 letters. It is memorable and it will work. Only one person on here has been odd enough to sugggest that it is about second hand sails - most people have said that it is a good enough mame and no-one has AFAIK suggested anything better (or checked to see if it is available!)

What is needed is more items for sale.

As for all the pontificating about Google - the site already has a Google page rank of 4, not bad for a newcomer so the original designer must have done something right. Reasonably appropriate title and meta tags are in place, although they could perhaps be tweaked slightly, and in Google terms the site is well designed. More incoming links are the next thing to chase up to improve its Google performance.

Get lots and lots of items on it Dave and people wil visit and use it.

Agreed. It beggars belief that there's all this waffle when the problem is so obvious

An auction site with nothing to auction! Wow, that's a cracking idea innit? Spose it keeps the running costs low...

Re: Does the name imply that it\'s biassed ?

I'll repeat myself
"Get lots of small dealers and suppliers on your site (SaltyJohn for instance), but keep in mind it doesn't want to become a dealer's directory with no pay-off for you. Get reciprocal links from them as this is major driver in search engines at the moment.
Search for all the small boatclubs and single-make boat owners asscoiations who have sites (think Westerley, Norman, Folk-boat, Mirror, etc etc.). They always have "overlooked" secondhand items lists. Either offer to put them on your site or approach each advertiser and get them on your site. The advantage here is that those same one-make owners may start to use your site as a resource if they know that it's kept up-to-date (which owners sites rarely are, even offer to host a one-make sales page which is linked to from their owners site) It'll be a cheap and effective way to fill the saleroom (sic) and get returning browsers. Again, reciprocal links."
because it's items for sale you need, and this'll get them, cheaply.

You'd have thought Dave would have done all this since you suggested it yesterday.

cheeky sod.I cant imagine why a site called SAILroom may possibly mislead the odd person to think there may be some connection with sails.
