I really dont know why people freak out at the word "Osmosis"

I dont know if you people know this but every single GRP Boat, yacht or whatever you want to call it HAS OSMOSIS, the reason is , Because when fibreglass was invented they thought it was water proof , it is not ! shock horror. as soon as that hull touches water it starts to absorb water whether boat is new or old it matters not, this process is called osmosis, the problems start when you get air gaps between fibreglass layers (hence the term Bad layering) as when the hull does its business of soaking up water, the water builds up in the air gaps (bad layering) and then a chemical reaction takes place and gas is created, therefore causing pressure and then out pops your bubble.

Secondly boats that have been on fresh water tend to suffer more, as the molecules of H2o are smaller in fresh water than salt water so penetrate the fibreglass easier.

Science class over !
