i posted this on another forum ,someone kindly suggested I post here,
In 1989 hubby and myself bought a 28 foot mirage ex charter boat in Greece and spent the next three years living in and around the med where we met and lost touch with plenty of yachties,We were walking around Argeles marina (south france) where we now live with our two young daughters and got to talking about our seafaring days! Does any one out there know the whereabouts of Roy with Chant Breeze last seen in Malta(must now be aged 80)
colin and cath on Serendipity
Mike and Di harper(used to do articles for the PBO)
Or any one out there remember Deb and Ian on Mistress(me and hubby)

Bizarre.

I remember Mistress very well, and don't know whether putting us aboard her reflected the Yacht Cruising Association's sense of humour. The year will have been somewhen in the late 70's, the place the Sporades.

Self and an old mate had booked a flotilla holiday, and we decided female company would be a good thing, and so we inveigled two young ladies to accompany us. One eventually graduated to become Madame, although she was Mademoiselle in those days, whilst the other remains a close friend. Anyway, flight to Athens, coach trip, ferry, coach and as the sun was setting we, along with 50 or so other happy holiday makers arrived alongside a quay were a fleet of Mirage 28s were moored, glistening with pristine newness. The others in the flotilla were without exception (except for six lads from Belfast) family parties, either mums, dads and ankle biters or older couples. The Mirages all had names beginning with M, Mistral, Magician, Marmoset, Mumps, Measles, etc and as we stood on the quayside the lead crew read out from their clipboard, allocating crews to boats " The Blenkinsop party on Mulligatawny, the Smithers on Mustard, the Featherstonehaughs on Mouldy," etc. In the end, there was just us four left, standing there nonchantly. "And we're putting you aboard Mistress". A cheer went up from the crowd, or at least those who understood the joke.

Re: Bizarre.

that was not the response I expected but it was a lovely suprise! we bought her in Lavrion(near Athens),we picked her from three/four remaining of the fleet and indeed sailed with another ex of that fleet for a while in Turkey, where eventually sold her in Mamaris in 1994 after our daughter was born.
What do you sail now(couldn`t tell from your picture and am a little out of practice! remembering bare boat charters brings back memories sitting in harbours waiting for the evening entertainment to arrive ..the bareboats to arrive and make a gaff! sorry if I offend anyone and I know we have all made mistakes but to see someone drop their anchor into the dinghy! or throw a line ashore when not tied on the cleat... enough said.

Ah yes, that happened on our flotilla.

Clive, an emminent solicitor, accompanied by Mrs Clive on Miscreant. She on the tiller as they nosed up to the quay, Clive on foredeck, flot leader on the jetty, making the requisite hand signals.

Closer, closer, then "OK, throw me your line".

Which Clive does very efficiently and accurately. Leader makes it fast, while the other end, unattached, slides viperlike over the bow.

"Don't worry" shouts Clive, as he worriedly watches the end spiral down into the depths of the harbour, and he dives over the bow, surfacing a few seconds later with the rope's end clutched firmly in one hand. "I've got it!"

"So have I" responds sun bronzed and bleached flot leader, busy coiling the rope.
