I think it's the right decision for you, Nicho. I know there will be times when you'll look out to sea and wonder if it was, but no one can take the good memories from you, and your wife's health means she needs you there.

I'm going to see what happens over the next year, but Milady could manage at home for a few days and the boat's small enough for me to handle on my own, so I rather think swallowing the anchor would be premature for me.

Good luck, and thanks - hope all goes well for you both.

Good luck with your sale - I doubt there are many Bav34s out there with a bowthruster so for the right purchaser that will be a great attraction along with the new engine. If you are able a few photos might be of interest to other Bav owners . I do recall that a chap I knew had a bowthruster retrofitted to a Hanse 32 or thereabouts but never seen one on any Bavs of this size. Don’t know which cabin layout you have but there don’t seem to be many of either config for sale in UK currently generally.
Thanks. The boat is what is I think called the owners version. Single aft cabin and heads aft. Photos are a bit thin, but let’s try one of the bowthruster installation, fitted earlier this year.

Yes owners version although you sometimes see described as a34-2 or suchlike. The advantage of that version is both sides of the bow cabin berth are accessible compared to 3 version where the forward heads means access is restricted. Bowthruster looks good make I think for a tunnel version.

Nicho, I’ll wager that you’ll be sold before January is out. A very tough decision to make, but there’s a whole country out there to explore in the ‘van. Have fun!

Sailing schools used to love the twin aft cabin, yours is probably more desirable to prospective owners right now, I agree with the others it should sell v quickly.

These things go in waves -when we sold our 3 cabin version there were a few 2 cabin versions with the garish cushions knocking about but at other times there are more 3 cabin ones about. Clearly the ex charter sailing school ones or those from say Greece are less desirable than a well cared for owner sailor version.

Yes, Sleipner Side Power. Fabulous bit of kit, very powerful, fitted June 2020. The previous owner had the new D1-30 and new sail drive fitted in 2016, new electric windlass, new 15kg Rocna, all standing and running rigging renewed in 2016, new cruising chute 2018, new VHF, new life raft (needs servicing now three year old), full cockpit tent - brilliant in winter. Eberspacher heating. Engine/saildrive serviced by VolvoPaul April 2020. 2 coats antifoul and professional polish June 2020. Will be sad to see her go, as we’ve hardly used her since we bought it in late 2019, but it’s wanted for nothing.

Cockpit tent is a great addition and it looks like previous owner did a lot of stuff we dint touch - if you have some new sails as well and dumped the rubbish Elvstroms they came with all looking good. The original vhfs were fine as early DSc versions so surprised at change but the rocna at 15kg certainly will hold a 4500kg boat I’m sure.(not wanting to create another anchor thread) . I guess you should get back what you paid around £40k ?

Your grasp of the geography of the UK is a trifle skewed if you believe all harbours are 12 hours driving from the Midlands.
Everywhere on the island of Britain seems to be, according to Google maps. That’s plenty to be going on with!
