Denial of Access. My boat needs urgent attention

It is now over four weeks since I have been able to reach the boat since the landlord locked our access gate on the grounds of safety of the steps to the foreshore. (This is highly contentious, and in any case de minimis safety issues [ loose step and wobbly handrail]).

I had a text yesterday evening from an adjacent, and highly experienced, boat owner that my mooring lines have somehow twisted and are chafing, and that attention is needed sooner rather than later.

I therefore need to access my boat and make any necessary repairs as soon as possible, and am a three hour drive away.

What are my best options ?

1 Go down, knock on the landlord's door and explain the need for access and ask him to remove the lock and wire ASAP ?

2 If he is not there, or refuses to let me have access, should I let the police know and then cut through the lock and wire, preferably with an officer present to prevent any public order offences.

3 ???

I do not fancy rowing a mile (outboard is in for a service) in the dinghy across nearly open water in winter in a forecast F4 to 5. No other transport is readily available.

My concerns are for the safety of the boat, which is moored fore and aft, with my normal winter kit of two pennants at each end, plus a back up chain, all with antichafe. Should I be turning for help to the harbour master or the town from whom we lease the mooring fundus ? They are pretty hot on supervising boats with dodgy moorings (which mine wasn't when I left her) Also , should I be informing my insurance company of the no access situation ?

I can think of more peaceful things to be doing at the moment, and it is especially infuriating as, having had a business meeting in the town near to the boat yesterday, all I could do from the shore side of the locked gate was look at the boat and see that she was floating to her normal marks.

There you go problem sorted .
If as said the contract run out in March , if you can call it a contract , your best bet is to look for another way to get to your boat .
Some how if the guy has dug his heels in , You be luck if he let you through the gate other wise others will want the same , although it is Christmas maybe a couple of bottles of sherry may help .
 
Presumably the "three hour drive" is entirely irrelevant. You will have to accept that your previous access to your mooring, over someone else's land, is lost and gone for ever. You now need to make other arrangements. If this involves a more seaworthy flit boat, then get on with it with some urgency. You have already been warned by somebody with an adjacent mooring, who somehow managed access, that your mooring arrangements need attention. What are you waiting for?

For Boxing Day onwards, 2 or 3 days of quite calm conditions are forecast for the country. There's your chance for some exercise after the Christmas turkey!
As queried, how did your fellow mooring-holder manage?

Am I reading this wrong, how can you lines be twisted if moored fore and aft?

I do feel like there's a but of trolling going on here...especially as I had a PM from B but was actually from Moderator after asking if it was Plymouth and then a second shortly after (once realising what they've done) from the Moderator with an extra line saying they are in touch with the OP. All very odd and I suspect a the YBW team are having a bit of a Christmas laugh and drumming up a bit of drama? I wasn't going to mention it but threads keep popping up.

Agree, rowing a mile in open water is a bad idea.

But did you not swim similar in a previous thread? And with sufficient tools to effect a comprehensive in-situ repair?
 
Assuming that the facts are all correct, it is not a criminal offence to climb over the fence/gate provided you do not do any damage. The landlords only recourse in law is to sue you in the County Court. That will cost him and, based on the facts and evidence as presented, he will lose.

The landowner is apparently in breach of contract.

...and yet still we can't resist replying to the thread. Who's to blame here, the mod, or us?

On the other hand it is plausible that the mods have been touchy about the GPDR bit and got involved. I'd expect then not to comment on that, but wonder if they could just confirm that the OP shows signs of multiple identities?
