Deisel Soot in engine bay

Anyone know with what to clean the engine and gelcoat in the enginebay

Acetone will work - but be careful to stub the fag out first...

Fairy liquid, and Hot water, a good stiff brush, and rinse with clean water. We had an exhaust/turbo, joint break, the engine space was black as Calcutta, tried gunk, hyperclean, absolutly no effect. The washing up liquid did the job.

My batman told me the engine bay cleaner from the 99p shop is quite good, but disc brake cleaner really does the job. Downside is that you might start seeing things after breathing the fumes for too long, and its extremely flamable so dont blow the boat to bits. But its a damn good cleaner...

Thanks All. The wastegate connection came loose on thr way back from thr Sealift at Cowes on Wednesday. Now i have a nice clean bottom and stern bits but a filthy engine bay. Perhaps real hot water from the back shower will reach. Ive loads of truck clean on board to try, i know brake cleaner works but a tad dangeroo hic! hic! I like the idea of washing up fluid though.
