Date slip has been on for what, three days?

Give it a chance, you might like it! ;-)

I'd have thought a couple of weeks at least for everyone to get the feel for it, surely?

Leave it ON,ON,ON

To turn it off would kill many good subjects that drop off the page. With it on, only those subjects that are being used remain on that first page.

Also a few days is no fair trial...... leave it on for at least a month before even considering a change back.

No it does not mean one or two people can bore the pants of you. You do not have to look at boring threads.

It means that any thread that is being actively contributed to is kept alive - when no one is contributing, it slipos away. Surely this is better than the thread position determined only by the date of the original post, wwhich allow heavily contrbuted threads to slip away and often be missed all together by the occasional viewer. It also means that tiny threads with even one message force popular threads off the page.

You determine what you read by the thread subject.

As regards old threads popping up, I beleive that was due to some intentional sabatouge. Yet if someone does find a older, off the page thread, and makes a contribution to it or asks a question - then under the old system they would hardly ever receive a reply because the thread was way down the list and off the page - no one knew the question had been asked. Under the new way the fact that there is a new contribution is evident and the chanxes of receiving a response much higher.

The new system also allows long serious threads to stay alive - sometime on other forums, real good discussions takes place over weeks/months.

Very well put. I agree leave it ON, ON, ON
As Paul says - The most recent replies will be at the top.

Contary to popular belief we are creatures of habit and do not like change. So rather than jumping to conclusions dont like / do like it. Lets leave it a few weeks then we can have a democratic "one boat - one vote" and decide fair and square which system we adopt.

I suggest that the vote comences on Friday the 12th July at 8pm. I will do three posts:-
1) The system (giving instructions how to vote and the instructions)
2) The YES vote - Those in favour of the Dateslip fuction
3) The NO vote - Those NOT in favour of the function
At the end of 7 days ie Friday 19th at 8pm, we then count how many replies (votes) each thread has.(one per person so duplicates do not count)
This will give everyone a full week to vote which should be enough time. And as this post has been done at least two weeks before the vote starts then all the "regulars" should be well aware.

So far I think I prefer the new system, but agree it's too early yet to take a vote. As someone else suggested let's give it a fair trial, a month or so then have a vote.

Re:eek:ff pls

I'll be away on 12th july. In fact, if gludy's boring jet post keeps at the top i'll be off even sooner. At leat last timne he bought a boat (not many months ago) and asked 19million questions it dropped away from time to time and he had to ask a new question. Sorry paul, no (t much) offence intended - but the thought of your post (or anyone else's) staying on top for weeks or months sounds dull dull dull. Imagine turning up at the pub and having to continue the same blimmin conversation as the night before and the night before that just cos someone (just one person) is still on about it? And isn't at least a part of the idea of a bulletin board that's it's news -not old stuff at the top? My concern with dateslipping already recorded, and the many reasons.

Re:eek:ff pls

Matts - It starts on the 12th
with a whole week to vote.

So if we have been on about it for 1 week, 2 weeks until the vote and then 1 week voting that makes 4 weeks !!!!!!!!

If you ask nicely I'll let you have a postal vote if you cant get to read the forum for a WHOLE week.
