Sorry this pic has appeared on the forum as often as the great escape has on BBC1 but it still amuses me.

Apparently my boat was bought new by a family who were into horses. They named her Cobby Girl, as she has a wide stern. I have renamed her Chausey as I used to sail to Isle des Chausey when I lived in France and thought they were as near to paradise as you can get.

My boats called Meekatharra, it was named after the the town the owner made his money. At a gold mine in Australia.

The forum renamed her Mucky Farter, about ten years ago and it has stuck ever since.

Meekatharra, a place with little water.

Me father's Mobo was originally called "Burger Queen"........apparently their was some sort of Burger King connection.........renamed before bought by my father though

Saw one recently "Up Yaws" - made me giggle!

Little one in my avatar is called "Zit" which amuses some people

On the River Wey, a ply 2-berth home built called "My Bote", seen years ago in West Bay (Bridport) a crabber called "Yertis", you need to say that with the appropriate accent - translated as "Here 'tis". Also in West Bay I went out on a trawler years ago called "Dreadnought", fishing around Portland race. In those days lots of Russian spy trawlers about with loads of antennas all over them and the navy constantly overhead in helos. Owners of Dreadnought got hounded so much by the Ministry that they had to rename her as it hurt the Navy's feelings..

Hard on

Now some sailors like to use sailing terms so a friend, named his 40 foot catamaran Hard On, as used in hard on the wind.

However after a day race to a local Island one of the crew decided to stay ashore for a bit and we all returned to the cat.

Much later that night a voice could be heard across the water call "Hard on, Hard on. After about 4 calls someone on a boat between un the wayward crewman shouted back "Tell someone who cares".

Avagoodweekend......

Has anyone noticed Jimi has dug this post up from the basement - it goes back to 2002.

There is a Bavaria at Bucklers Hard called "The Knackers" presumably a reference to it being the dogs gonads. Trouble is if he ever takes it to Ireland the term knackers is a derogatory term for gypsies - it 's a bit like calling it "The Pikeys" or "The Gippos". :)

Had a friend named Haydon - called his boat Hayday. Confusion when one day he fell overboard in a race and crew called "Mayday this is Hayday"

Laser names

Many years ago a guy in Bangor (N.I.) sailed lasers, the first was called 'Lazy One', the second was 'Too Lazy' and the third was----- 'Lazy Turd'; well I thought it was funny.
