D4 engine with rust

There are advantages to having a liner in the engine bay. It’s shinier, and harder to pump out in the case of hull damage.
But that wouldn’t happen often, hopefully.

On my SC35, that area is laid up with a few extra layers of fibreglass.
The original photo looks to be some sort of goo that has shrunk.
A good fibreglass person should be able to make that look a lot better for not much much money, if the access is ok.

I’d be very surprised if there is a structural problem there: the engine bearers and transom are quite chunky.

The rusty engine looks a lot more expensive.

IIRC the S38 had structural issues and if the surveyor (as it would seem) was dodgy perhaps it's a good idea to have another and reputable surveyor help you.

S38 issues were thin layup under the saloon, nothing to do with the transom.
But yes, a good surveyor that knows Sealines would be a good move to assess the situation properly.

S38 issue was starboard side under the settee area , too much unsupported flat area of hull that was right in the firing line for a good wave .
Most rectified by Desty marine under instructions from the factory .

Sale of Goods act, boat misdescribed and surveyor failed to adhere to prescribed standards.

Take plenty of photos on a data back camera with time and date stamped on for evidence, act quickly and decisevely.

Thanks all, I am in the process of organising a new survey of the entire boat and have contacted the surveyors insurance company. However, they seem to be ignoring me so far! Won't answer the phone (due to working remotely) and haven't even acknowledged my emails. Winter & Co Marine Ltd.

The hull issues were rectified by the factory with documented evidence. I have also spoken with the original owner. The surveyor was made aware of the potential hull issues pre-survey.

Draw up an affidavit and word it carefully as this leaves them nowhere to hide, have it notarized and sent it registered post to them and watch them jump.
