Not sure of benefits of joining CA if going cruising abroad as i thought they were based in UK. However, noticed comment on another thread about marina discounts as members.

Wondered if anyone could explain pros and cons of joining, I understand it's over £100 to join and thats a lot of widgets for Max!

Thanks

As other have said it depends a bit on where you intend to cruise. For most of Europe their information is very good. Once you go farther afield, say transat or transpac then the OCC and the SSCA are a better bet in my view.

Thanks for all the replies, am really enjoying the forum and finding it so useful in our countdown to d-day, 10 weeks to go and counting !

Fab idea! Not a good enough reason to fly a blue duster though ...

Nah, SWMBO made a white one out of an old bed sheet she found in the skip. We got a €3 union jack from Chinese shop and she just sewed it in the corner.

It is dead big and looks great (apart from the stains).

Better still - you can get to join 2 associations for less than the price of one. Fork out 20 quid and join the Moody Owners Association - you don't even need a Moody and you get the first year's subscription to the CA half price!

what exactly is the criteria for overseas membership to the CA, ? obvious answers apart, do they need proof of overseas living / residence, or Tax forms to fill in?
when we move onto our boat will they just take our word for it?

we will be permanent livaboards so no subtefuge here just interested in the red tape if any...

cunning plan re the Moody Owners Association.......

I am a NEW member of the CA and it has a lot of very good benefits ---BUT-- the Web site is a DISASTER. They make it very difficult for people like me to access it. I have put this on this site as a lot of CA members will read it and perhaps someone will explain to me in very very simple easy to understand words how to make it easier??

There I feel much better now!

There's a thread running on MyCA asking for members' input on improvements to the CA WWW. Go www.cruising.org.uk, then Forums, then CA Matters. You'll need to log in.

All sorted. I was surprised how quickly my notice on here got a flood of ACTION. Anyway I am now reasonably happy with the web/forum of CA, it seems to be getting better daily.

Fair winds
