If you where crossing from the U.S to The UK and the starting point was Maine would you come straight across to the Azores or would there be a better route? Via Bermuda? what sort of time would you do this crossing?
May? June?

I would do it this way:
1. go to www.google.com

2. click on Google Maps

2. click on "maps"

3. click on "get directions"

4. type " New York " in the first box (the "from" box)

5. type " London " in the second box (the "to" box), click on “get directions”

6. scroll down to step #23 for directions...

Joking apart...though I nearly fell of me stool after checking Google!.......depends on weather patterns. I am crossing from Greenport, Long Island in early May and will be going via Azores. Basically, if you go North and then across you risk high winds but quick passage - South and across you get fair winds but takes longer. Not exact I know (can hear the rumblings of old salty dogs already), but rule of thumb stuff. Check out position of Atlantic high pressure etc. May/June is good for West to East atlantic crossing.

Bon voyage and Bon Chance

I did it single handed from Tortola to Kinsale nonstop in June 32days and had pretty good weather. Passed well to the North of the Azores.
