Anyone know how to remove an old mini contest compass from the bulkhead? Cant work out what holds the front cover on. If I put a screwdriver into the hole on the front I can feel something springing against it but nothings shifting.

Yup, plastic nuts on plastic studs.

There's usually a ring of plastic on the inside of the boat, also secured by the plastic nuts.

It may be necessary to pull the compass globe out towards the cockpit to give the nuts some purchase, then undo them - that bit may briefly require 2 people depending on compass position.

On the inside of the bulkhead there is just a plastic cover with plastimo on it, even picked the label off, no holes or screws.

Well - notwithstanding the fact it MIGHT be different, but if you can see a 'cover' that probably means that has to come off first.

When I can see the nuts on my old Plastimo, then I can also see the compass' glass bowl.

Thanks for the help.
I take it the back cover just pulls off. Its been tightly recessed into the bulkhead so I wasnt able to get anytking under the edge, will have another go at it.

Thanks its helpful, wondered what the holes were for on the front, they must be for compensators. Mine have long since disappeared. The compass looks terminal anyway, the card is lying to one side and 1/4 full of air.

If you want to try a cheap revival (and can deal with how the fluid escaped) squirt some Johnsons Baby oil in the vent to top it up...

I araldited a crack in mine 5 yrs ago, now all is well as above.

Finally managed to remove it!
Had to strip off the bulkhead facing before I could even see the retaining nuts, only the black cover was showing through this. It must have been fitted before the inside of the boat was finished.
Did the cheap fix. Polished out most of the uv damage and refilled with baby oil.
Thanks for the help
