Wide and easy!

and no speed limit either :)

Nice write-up and pictures. Looks like lots of fun.

Good to hear back from Compie. Met him at Demedts Marine, he called me a year or so ago (or is it already 2 years ?) informing me of his decision to move with his family to the south of Italy. Seems he now also moved his S/S over ?
Seems like his dream is coming through.

Please give him my greetings.

Cheers,

Alain

Did you sample the mud pool in Vulcano? After two weeks of showering in strong-smelling soap, we still reeked!

Didnt go in it, but smelt it... Phwoaaar!!! (is that how you smell it??). From your phot, I think we anchored in the same place as you, with the wind blowing us offshore for 4 days. When I woke one morning with the wind changing, it was time to go.

Interesting place, as was Stromboli, well worth the visits.

I am well, and holding down a job again, (3 days a week :) ), which gets me out of bed and keeps me out of mischief.

It transpired that the starboard alternator, although Caterpillar, was not the original and the shaft was the wrong size for the pulley and nut. The pulley came off and disappeared into the bilge and Tom had to perform some contortions to locate it. In the process, it stripped off the water pump belt. Fortunately, we had replacements. In the end, we removed the suspect alternator and ran on the port one, which appeared to be charging both battery banks. The batteries were new, so no problem there.

Fantastic report. I've always said that Med weather is usually rubbish! Those Cat engines (3208TA) look v familiar to me. I've had them in 3 boats. The alternators seem to be a weak point on them as I've experienced 3 failures myself and on one occasion, the wrong replacement was fitted which bears out your experience.
I've always liked the Mustique 42 although I've never owned one. I can imagine that it goes quite well with those engines?

Actually, it didn't go as well as my Camargue 47, which had the same engines. However, it was in need of some TLC after being laid up for so long and Tom intends to bring it up to scratch this winter. As I said, once we got going, the Cats didn't miss a beat.

My Camargue Cats never had alternator problems. In fact, the only problem I had in many, many miles was having to replace the aftercooler flanges with bronze ones, and that was a precautionary measure.

Yup, I forgot about those. 'Top Hats' my engineer called them and he did change them on as a precaution on my last boat too
