Like all my posts this is based on a true events, a sailing boat recently ran into me and got his rigging all entangled on my boat.

I carry bolt croppers, wood/metal saws and an array of hammers combined hatchets which were more than capable of freeing the boat from me.

As it happened it was a French boat and communications with the skipper were somewhat limited.

As I set to freeing/dismantling the boat the French skipper didnt look very happy.

I made a point of handing him back all the bits I broke off and off he went.

What is the actual situation regarding damage deliberately done to his boat in an attempt to mitigate my damage ?

Obviously two boats entangled is a real danger to both boats as neither can navigate, who chooses which boat to sacrifice or is it the one with the biggest tools for the job (as in my case ) who claims the right to get cutting first ?

I dont really see whos fault the accident is being relevant but for what it is worth I was on a swinging mooring buoy not under power at the time, when the French sailing boat collided with my stationary boat as he grounded he lost steering.
High winds, choppy waves and a fast flowing falling tide.

What would you have done ?

You have got to do whatever it takes to preserve the safety of the personnel involved and remove the danger and then sort out the financial consequences afterwards.

 Crikey, I probably shouldn't ask, but being new to this 'boating lark', I can't help but inquire about the reasoning behind this armory aboard a GRP Mobo?

I understood the need for a few tools like screwdriver, spanners, sharp knife and pliers, but bolt croppers and hatchets... I'm now starting to wonder how to find space on my 14' Fletcher for a chainsaw, set of extension ladders and perhaps a howitzer? (For boarding the b*ggers and removing their masts of course... ;))

I'd gone a bit mad with the tools on board, looking at White Mischief just before selling thought to myself hmm she see seems to be listing a bit. Took the tool box out (that I could only just lift) and now she's level!
