"No need to tack yet. There\'s plenty of water here..."

The East Coast skipper's classic remark.

35 years of practice at sailing in the Thames Estuary and I still come out with it, seconds before slithering to a halt...

"Why yes sweet heart, I do think you look fat in that dress."

If a man speaks in the forest, and there's no woman around to hear
him... Is he still wrong?

Re: A confederate General...

Now you're on to my pet subject (the American Civil War). The general in question was Gen. John Sedgwick and at the battle of Spotsylvania Court House (May 8 - 19 1864) he stood up in front of his cowering troops and yelled "Stand up men, they couldn't hit a bull elephant at this distance!" Only seconds later he was hit just below the left eye by a bullet from a Confedreate sharpshooter and was dead before he hit the ground.

My favourite last words are Mark Bolan (of T-Rex fame) - "These Minis corner well don't they?".......

Alien beings landed on Earth. On leaving spacecraft, one said, 'One small step for a Snarg ... One giant leap for Snargkind'
