It would be good to build a new one in strip plank cedar!!!

As far as I know a couple of the baby ones are in good shape. Cant remember the name of the other.

There is a 50ft one at Freebody's place on the Thames. I hope he doesn't leave her to ruin like he did another boat.

I have had the same thought about a strip plank ceder one, Peter Nicholson lives in Hamble, I see him from time to time, the grandson of Charles, I've nearly asked about the plans more than once.

Tell him I used to race against him in a National 12 (true) - he was a an excellent helmsman, it may "loosen him up"

I ought to answer about the Freebody point; the boat is the original of the class, Gelyce, and has been owned by the same person for many, many years. I've been at Freebody's since the early 80's, and Gelyce is back at Hurley in it's second period there, still with the same owner. It's not for PF whether the boat "is left to ruin", it's up to the owner! Since I've been there the boats which have had to be broken up were because either the owners let them go, or new owners couldn't be found to fund the restoration. BurgundyBen, you might want to edit your post a little.

As I have detailed elsewhere on this forum, I have a problem with the way he operates. He buys an interesting old wreck and leaves in the yard until an interested party comes along to fund the restoration. Fine. Excellent. But he should not leave the boats to ruin in the mean time. He bought a seaworthy boat from a friend of mine, a boat that was part of my childhood and left it to ruin in the yard without so much as a cover. Eventually he cut her up. A 1930's built motor boat, complete with WW straff damage in the planks. History destroyed for the lack of a £50 tarp.

In his position he has a responsibility to at least ensure no further deterioration of craft he owns.

I accept this is as you say not the case with Gelyce (good thing too!).

I agree with Burgandy Ben. A yard has a 'duty of care'. I don't care if its not a legal requirement or not.
A quick call....'Hi, the seasons over, would you like us to fit a winter cover and ridge pole', or, your bilges are full, we have pumped her out, or, 'Unless you get some paint on your boat it will be worthless in a few years' type thing.

Polite education is part of the job, and it maintains the nations heritage.

I know my customers appreciate this attitude and advice.

Or.....painting that boat dark green will bugger it up!!

Flying Monarch

Aztec, where is the pic of the outside, and perhaps the engine room? Seriously, how are things. Alan

Seachaser

Here is my project. Storebro Solo, she's called Seachaser and I'm in the middle of restoring her to her classic style. I'm knee deep in varnishes and sand paper at present and if anybody has any good tips for me I'd love to hear, other than "Bloody wooden boat mate, your mad!" cos I've had that one quite a few times allready along with "do you want a light?"

I am not familiar with the Chris Craft designs but she could be very similar.
Morgan Giles started building the Monaco class in the 50's, this one (Louly) was was built in 1959.
