Our Jabsco 37202-0 pump has finally given up the ghost after 20 years service, admittedly with a fairly easy life.

I'm no doubt missing something here, but why would I opt for the new 37202 model here - Jabsco 37202

over a 50880 (or similar) here - Jabsco 50880

From the specs both have a comparable output rate and maximum head (in fact the 50880 does better on both) but the 37202 is £92 more expensive. Does the single diaphragm design of the 37202 result in a longer life span, better running?

I have a Whale Gulley IC; it's brilliant. The electronic sensor turns the pump on whenever it's needed, no switching needed. There's no filter to clean. It just works. There's a choice of large or small shower tray drains.

Thanks pvb, however I don't want to change the drain etc (no doubt far more effort than reward) and happy to stick with the manual switch arrangement!

I use Whale Gulper 220 pumps to handle the boat's grey water, but there are things to watch out for. Firstly the pump is driven by a steel worm on the motor shaft, which drives a plastic wormwheel. If the worm rusts it will strip the wormwheel, so you need to make sure it is greased, and that the pump is not installed where it can get into salt water. I have two in the bilges, one to pump water into grey water holding tanks and one to pump out from the bilge tanks. I check them as part of annual boat servicing and make sure that the worm has enough grease to prevent rust. My Gulper 220 pump out pump works to a head of about two metres with a good flow rate. I suggest the previous poster checks the output valve.
