I can't remember the last time I saw both the White posts for the Roman Transit in place. There seems to be a single low white post but I've never worked out if it lines up with Stoke Clump.

It's not marked on Navionics charts, so has a decision been made to get rid of the white posts for the Roman Transit for good, or is it just a long way down the Conservancy jobs list?

I don't need it - just curious.

I reckon the white mark is still there.

As a dinghy sailor in the harbour I don't take much notice of these 'big' marks. I do however notice that the Conservancy does not seem to be bothered if withies go missing

I've not been that way for a while but which transit mark do you think is missing?

The first one when heading up the harbour is actually/also the port mark..

I reckon both those are missing: The big diamond is gone and the combined port post/white post is also gone. ...and I reckon they have been for years rather than months. However I take little notice of them so I may be wrong.

There is a white post there but it's nothing like the original red post/white mark. It's a shortish white post that doens't seem to be wood with no red top. I have no idea if it's intended to be the transit or not.

And yes, your photo is what I regard as the 'normal' state of things, and I reckon that's changed.

Old paper charts show the port 'Roman Transit' and the diamond mark.

Navionics charts on one of my plotters shows the transit line (and markers)...

The best one however is the C-Map chart in the other plotter. It is the only one that actually mentions the clump of trees..

Well, that shows just how aware I am of my surroundings!

Yeah, I've been up and down there dozens of times this year in a RIB/Yacht/Dinghy/Kayak and I've walked past and I've spectated a junior dinghy race right opposite Cobnor point *and* I get the NtMs to my inbox. Yet, I had nothing more than a vague awareness it was gone.

Obviously I won't be mentioning that in my stern letter to the Conservancy claiming it's essential and my life has been put in danger by the removal. 😁

EDIT: Imray charts are superb and if I ever buy paper charts again I'll be getting Imray. But... Itchenor Ferry isn't summer only and I doubt it was when that chart was printed.
