Apologies to all if this is an oft repeated question. If you have a monochrome chart plotter is it possible to a) view its data on a separate colour monitor (in colour) and/or b) view its data through a pc?

Particularly in b) can the pc utilise the charting information which would be in the chartplotter?

Yes if Raymarine, as said above, because there is an interface.

But in general, no, mostly, unless you do a bit more shopping, as follows:

The NMEA data created by the plotter's GPS is easily extracted and fed into a pc via COM1 port or USB. With some nav software your PC can then display lat/long, COG, SOG, etc. If you then install some nav software on the PC the PC will display the COG, SOG data. If you go a step further nad intall chart dta and software ont he PC, then the PC becomes a colour plotter.

Extracting the chart data off the plotter and displaying it on the PC isn't generally feasible, but if you get some nav software for the PC and a plug in chip reader, you can take the chart chip out of your plotter, put it into the PC chip reader, then you will have colour charts on your pc

If the question you\'re

asking is "can I use a PC to view the same charts as my chartplotter?" the answer is yes for Navionics Gold and C-Map NT+, providing you buy their software.

If you want to use a feed to a TFT colour screen to see your chartplotter information it is very unlikely and depends on the chartplotter and the chart format.
