Brummel Splice in Laid Rope

I need to replace my mooring bridle. I'm using 18mm polysteel, a 3-strand laid rope. I need a hard eye in the middle of the line, so I have a pair of pennants, one for each hull. The easy way to do this, that worked well, is to use a Brummel splice, but I can't remember how many tucks I need, and a web search only gives me instructions for braided line. Can anyone remind me, please?

An old seamans way is to bind the two standing parts creating the eye round the thimble eye. Pilot ladders are made that way ... the binding being Marlin Line ...

You could use an alpine butterfly knot.

I imagine the brummel splice in the centre of a line would have just one tuck through the standing part for each leg for a braided rope. I imagine OK for 3 strand. You could however use Nigel's suggestion of a whipping to add to the strength of the total line. Or just use a knot. ol'will
