Hi everyone,
1st time poster here, so go easy on me.
Been racking my brain for a couple of years now, thinking what to do about my situation. Thought I'd ask for advice from people much wiser from me.
I'm Portuguese, and have a beautiful 2005 Cobalt 206 boat back home, that I use about 3 days a year. I've thought about bringing it over, for quite a while, but the logistics are a bit daunting.
With regards to running costs, it's much better to have it here, as in Portugal you have to pay loads of taxes on the boat, even if you don't use it, plus storing, maintenance and so on, since I'm away from it and can't take care of that myself.
However, I'm not sure if it wouldn't make more sense financially to sell the boat there, and buy a different one here (they seem to be cheaper here, for some reason). This is assuming I could sell it, of course.
With regards to the actual bringing it here, it's apparently to wide for a container ship, so the easier option is to tow it all the way from Portugal, through Spain and France. I'd rather not do that, as I'm sure the long journey would affect the integrity of the hull, right?
Therefore, I was thinking maybe I could tow it to Santander in the north of Spain, and hop on a ferry there with the boat, all the way to Portsmouth. Once there I could tow it to whatever lake I decided to leave it on ( i live between London and Cambridge).
That ferry is pretty expensive though, and my car is to weak to legally tow the boat, so I'd have to rent a vehicle that could do that, and do the whole journey with it.
So overall, I can't workout if it makes sense to try and bring it here, or sell and buy something here, or even if I'm missing other options which could be simpler.
Would appreciate ANY advice on any of the points that are stumping me.
Thank you in advance
