give me some typical price levels - I've been charged 18p/unit.

and arent there some rules / laws about what they can add onto the price they pay?

They are not permitted to sell electricity per unit for anymore than they are charged for it. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with the precise law but it is because it is a regulated market. They can of course apply whatever admin fees and standing charges they like provided they are transparent about it, which can often be quite substantial/

If you were to ask for information from 20 different marinas you would get 20 different answers ..... I know this because I have done it !!

Only one in the Solent, Universal in Hamble, provide all electricity free of charge.

Others charge differing amounts for the service (eg £10/qtr, £75 pa), as well as for the units. (eg 14p, 16p)

One company charges per unit for the service which is complicated because of the VAT, eg 14p for electricity plus 5% VAT, then 4p service charge plus 20% VAT, total per unit in the order of 20p.

My bill is 18p plus vat = 21.6p. No service charge. And according to Ofgem there is no limit on what they can charge since its a commercial not domestic contract.

Thats the same document that I looked at. Its says " max resale price applies .... reslae for domestic use" . Further down its says " max price does not apply for use at commercial or industrial premises" . I read that as saying that my boat stored over winter in a boatyard isnt covered. If I had a houseboat it would be

I think that "commercial or industrial premises" means where units on a site are sublet to tenants.

The whole thing proves that there is no simple answer, it remains a buggers muddle when applied to boats either ashore or afloat.

Calais Free up to 6 amps supply (per socket :) )
Well, included in the berthing cost.

While about it, one might point out that Calais is not in the UK and probably not regulated in the same manner as the UK.

Recent cost increases still leave the UK (@ about €14.5/100kWH) comparable to Greece @ €14.2/100kWH and a lot lower than the mean in Europe of €19.7/100kWH.
