If they were introduced by Conquistadores it was very perspicacious of the Normans to build warrens. Also, can you imagine the scene in Madrid?
King 'So where's the gold?'
Conquistadores 'We didn't get any gold but we got these' (produces rabbit from hat).
King 'No gold but you've brought a big floppy rat! You're having a laugh, aren' t you?'

Actually rabbits are like cats, prefer not to get wet, but if absolutely necessary swim very strongly by all accounts! The Romans found this out when they tried to keep them on islands! If not on an island they dug their way out, if on an island they swam their way out!!!
Very powerful back feet!!!

However as dogs and cats wear lifejackets, why not, my bunnies are bigger than one of our neighbours cats, and bigger than your average Yorkshire pudding or Chi-wotsit!

The Conquistadores brought Guinea Pigs back! Rabbits are natives of Iberia, and the Romans first bred them for food!

The mist clears. The Romans had the right idea - rabbit pie. They are considered unlucky in the Thames estuary at least. If you must refer to one on a boat they are 'underground racehorses'!

Hahaha! .... subterranean show jumpers more like, given the heights they can reach!
My female rabbit looks more like a galloping pregnant carthorse with her figure and could not be compared with a race horse! Fast though!
