I am in the middle of a divorce and my lady soon to be ex wife has banned me from the boat. For reasons I wont go into it is in her name.

So I now have the kids 3 week holiday starting in 2 weeks ... without a boat. Joy.

So I need a new one - no necessarily in 2 weeks but I "need" one none the less.

The 65 was big, rarely full of people, cost a lot to moor and consumed a ludicrous amount of diesel in the 260 hours I did in her.

This time round I am looking at something around 50 feet as it is big enough for what I want, can be single handed and costs less to run. I could go bigger but there would need to be a real reason to do that given the increased costs.

I am open minded about a Sport or Fly. I think I want I fly due to the space you get, but the Targa 40 was great so biased maybe but open minded none the less.

I need 3 cabins and a crew with a single berth is a nice to have. If it is coded that is useful but not essential

Budget wise I am in the £200-£300k range and looking for something no more then 10 years old - so 2006 on.

There was a thread on here a while back that mentioned a Princess 52 so I looked at a 2002 one in Mallorca the other day. Was ok but dated. Also looked at a Portifino 53. Was a version 1 boat with a cantilever roof that had a lot of stress cracks on the roof and pillars. Boat was overall tatty but not priced accordingly. At the right price is a maybe ( but the price would need to be very right). Targa 52 is similar and also possible.

Phantom 50 looks Ok ( never been on one) and the Manhattan 50 is nice but I think JFM mentioned you have to buy from a certain year to avoid noisy exhausts and I don't know what that year is! There was one I looked at a few years ago ( long sold) but prices of these actually seem firmer than they were then which is a surprise.

The forum is a wealth of knowledge and hence over to you ... suggestions please for boats or links of ones for sale.

I will keep it in the med, which berth permitting might be Mallorca, but a change of scene to Antibes would be nice. Good knowing Jimmy the Builder is on hand to dive down and fetch my keys!

I am also interested in sharing a boat with someone, so if anyone has a desire for half a boat please feel free to shout.

Of course if anyone happens to have a boat they are not using for July that would be handy as well!

Thanks as ever

Jeremy

J, sorry to hear about all that.

How about Princess V53? No crew cabin but otherwise has three cabins and good cockpit. Cabin configuration is master double, guest twin, guest bunks.

Do you have preference about propulsion or full-beam master?

I've just purchased a 2006 manhattan 50, i think it's a great boat and not too noisy.
I had the same criteria/budget as you and found it's perfect for me, wife, two kids and grandparents to look after kids!

My opinion is that flybridges and open boats work well in the med, but retracting hardtops don't. In hot sun you want cover overhead (to keep the sun off), but open sides to allow airflow. A flybridge or open boat with a bimini will give you this, but a hardtop with the sliding roof open doesn't, in fact you have the opposite - high sides and open top.

Have sent you a pm by the way

You are exactly in the market I was last year, though with a budget 3 times mine.
2006 saw a bit of a drought in terms of three cabin boats - though there are options. Big thing is do you require a mid cabin owners layout?

Obvious choices are Phabtom 48 (though with compromises), Princess 50 (though I think the desirable MK3 version will be tight at the top and if your budget).

For me I'd look at a late Azimut 55 - ok a bit bigger but an 05/06 boat would be in budget.
If 50ft is a real limit then the crunch 50 Atlanticist offers a lot of value - 2007/08 boat for mid budget easily

Sorry to hear of you reason for change.
Is yours the blue hull 65 on with Essex?
If so you probably know they have a Phantom 50 in C'Dor within price range.
Also they have a full med spec 2008 Phantom 48 in the bracket but it may need to be shipped.

Petem...........I think Jimmy was referring you to this paragraph from the OP:-

take a walk on the wild side and have a look at a sealine T50, fits your spec and right on the money too. few for sale in the UK and in the med. Uses less fuel than a phantom 50 too.

Ah, sorry I missed that. I'd love to share a boat with Jeremy but I fear we're in slightly different leagues. I have a potential sharer already and we're looking to buy something around 40 foot @ £120k (total). Will only be a 2 cabin boat.

Jeremy, if you're interested, let me know (should be pocket money for a man of your means even after your mrs has nabbed half of your loot)!

You might find something more suitable on these sites (mine is the Phantom 40 advert).

Judging by the casual attitude with which you discuss these affairs in public....you deserve it ;-)

Cringed when I read that!

Anyway, my vote would be for a V53, great looking and some recentish examples at 300k...

Left field would be a Trader 535/40, I'm parked next to one today; you can take the kids away and not see them for a week it's that big :)

Enjoy shopping :)
