Anyway wot I wanted to ask wos. We have been carting all the boat papers back and forth to the boat for years cos of the french rules. I had every sales invoice from when the boat was new in 1989. Course with all the twoing and frowing. The papers have got lost have'nt they, been lost for months and not turned up. So. How do I get sorted for france and what do I do when I want to sell the boat. Answers on a post card please.

PS. Ditch crawlers a bit miffed when I backed tyhe barge all the way out of the marina. They thought I was a newby and thick.../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

The last place I really want to have my papers is on the boat, cause if the boat gets stolen, the scum have also got the original papers for the boat. I feel pretty miffed that RYA have not had a campaign to stop the French being so ---French! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Exactly. And thats why the papers kept going back and forth. I did not want to keep them on the boat. Besides it's 320 miles away from home. Because of the stupidity of the frenchites wanting original documents. I've now got no documents at all. Thanks for the reply, but it's realy not all that helpfull...../forums/images/icons/frown.gif

The French won't accept that- Originals only, or big instant fine

You should be able to to get duplicate registration docs from Cardiff whether SSR or Pt1. You'll probably have to prove yor identity or summat.

Ditto radio cert of Competence (or not) from the RYA and ICC.
The bills of sale are a bit of a problem really. Probably more than a bit.
Can only suggest you try and re-trace lineage from memory and hope that brokers etc have copies.
I do sympathise I'm always losing stuff. But most of it turns up in the end...hope your does too.

If all else fails avoid France !!
Come to swansea instead..no French 'ere.

Whats up with LJS?

Steve.

PS Ive lost a UHF handheld somewhere from carting stuff about back and forth...absolutely no idea where it is.

Stable door, bolted, horse, after etc, but why when you buy a boat, can you not have copies made and along with the originals have them witnesses and stamped by a 'notary publique' and surely this would be acceptable. I cannot believe that the French do not have a contingency which allows for theft/fire/idiocy etc.

certified copies

The French do this. In fact the capitainerie of most marinas will make photocopies and stamp/sign them "certified as a true copy...." etc, if you askem nicely

Re: certified copies

Yes, sorry, I know it doesn't help.

All you can do is get a new part 1 certificate, that should be fairly easy, you just need to prove your identity. You will not be able to get a replacement VAT invoice unless the builder/dealer has a copy but that's unlikely from 1989. If you have a photocopy of the VAT invoice I have seen it suggested that you could make a verbatim replacement on your worm processor, and provided you transpose the information perfectly and do not actually say it is an original then you are perhaps doing nothing wrong, better still you could add a stamp "certified as a true copy" etc. You could also swear a statutory declaration now saying what happened (bit ott possibly, but a friendly solicitor might help you on that).

FWIW we have never been asked to show our papers in 2 years boating in France

Re: It doesn\'t always turn up.

Trouble is it doesn't all turn up in the end. I lost the Part 1 registration off the last boat and it never did turn up. I thought maybe a passing crew member had borrowed it as a souvenir, I kept thinking the next time I looked it would have a stuffing great marine mortgage on it in my name....

Re: certified copies

Haydn,

It is a Princess you have isn't it?

If you contact Princess with the model and yard number they ought to be able to supply you with a certified copy of the original I should think.

Bill of Sale not so easy though, not sure what the answer is there. I suppose contact the MCA and explain the situation and tell them you wish to Full Part One register the boat. It'll cost you but if you can get it onto Full Part One that is the best form of title there is and that together with a certified copy of the VAT invoice should suffice as proof of ownership and VAT paid status for any port authority or broker when you come to sell.

Hope that helps.

Ari.

DUPICATES

If the french will accept duplicates ( they have to now the originals are lost) why don't we all carry duplicates to start with and when called to produce them tell them the originals were lost, stolen, eaten by the dog?
