Bio fuel here

Here here!!

We seem to be suffering from a 'Troll' invasion this morning!

Now where do I get a bio plant at the right money? Tyrells crisps are apparently worth a look if my unreliable source of information is to relied upon? I think they are about to start selling bio, as a by product of their core business.

Nautical

I have checked this out this morning.
We have tanks at our place of business for both ULSD and Red.
I have had a quote this morning for 2500 litres of biodiesel delivered ( b100 ) at £1.10ppl inc VAT and Duty.
My last bill ( February ) from our usual supplier of ULSD is £ 1.12ppl inc VAT, where is the incentive to use bio fuels?
For your information we buy Gas Oil ( red diesel to be used in plant and machinery ) at £ 0.53ppl plus 5% Vat=£0.56ppl.

James, just seemed sensible if a small mooshine type plant could be set up in the garage and manufacture the stuff for 40p or so per liter as some have implied may be possible.

Keen to find out just what the set up costs are for the kit thats all. Red is probably still the best way to go, I guess purchasing an old knackered digger for light gardening work might be a good idea, that and some big Jerry cans!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I may be missing something here, but no-one gets to be wealthy by spending money they don't need to. If the government doubles the cost of my fuel, why wouldn't I (a) complain, and (b) find a way to pay less?

As an investment banker, if the rent on your City office doubled, would you not investigate cheaper alternatives? Or perhaps you would just put up with it, claiming that if you can't afford to be an investment banker with an expensive office you should get out of the job.

Phil, thats up stream from my gaff mate, I think the river flows the other way, heaven help those in St neots!

Thanks for that web page link, It does appear to be fairly complicated but worth further investigation. I think if you simply went about fueling your boat privately you would be ok, the fishermen who go out at the weekends from Hayling invariably fill up from cans, and besides the pumps usually fill so quickly it blasts out of the overflow on the hull anyway!

Dont see what the problem is apart from transporting the stuff, and I guess a van every other month is no big deal.

Also, the 90ppl that Nautical found is duty at full rate. Duty for off road use (including boats) is only 9ppl, so a reduction of some 31ppl bringing the cost down to 69ppl - a bit better than 1.20

I feel there is a real opportunity for a fuel barge of marina to switch to 50% or 60% bio mix with diesel. The pump price for 50% mix would be around 90ppl based on full tax for the 50% derv and 9ppl tax on the 50% bio, plus there would be enough diesel to safely run any engine. Thats a saving of £300 on a 1000 litre fill up and not to be sniffed at surely.

I would if it were still privately owned. Sadly, it is now MDL and I think to get anything changed will take 15 board meeting, 3 years and then they will still just rip us off with the price.

Heard a rumour that the cowes fuel barge was up for sale. Since we are buying a marina on the East Coats, maybe we could all club together and start a fuel co-operative in cowes. Absolutly cost price diesel for members and good rates at a profit for non-memebers?

Sorry mike, I understood your comment. My reply was to Searush /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I still think there is an opportunity for Marinas to supply a 50/50 mix, and as you say, perhaps you can claim a proportion for heating.

Infact, how about a 70/30 mix with the 30% diesel claimed as heating/generator fuel? Another question - does anyone know how an eber will run on a bio mix?

Jez at the moment Sparkes cannot dispense ANY fuel. Pumps are broken and 6 weeks ago was told it would be 2 weeks to fix. Probably needs a few more board meetings, on site evaluation, Method statements and god knows what else. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My point exactly. Was down yesterday, office in bits, lots of action so at least they will all have somewhere pleasant to sit while the berthing fees roll in. Fuel? the phrase I heard was 'should be' next week. I asked if we would have fuel for easter and the answer back was 'I hope so'.

All I can say is I think Northney will be very very busy for fuel come Friday.

So how about that fuel co-operative?

a while back, the current had washed away the land under the slipway at Northney, so the concrete was just sitting in the air as it were. Big bill, so of course the suits came to inspect where all that money was going to go.
Now if you were in the boating business, and wanted to see the slipway, would you turn up at high or low tide?
All rumour , of course... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
