Hi all, probably driving myself insane with leaks…
I have a leak of some kind at the stern,it seems to come from under the fuel tank area, not a whole lot, but the not knowing bugs me. ( it’s not a fuel leak ) Please see pic.

The hull is like doubled skinned I think , and I’ve had the hull surveyed , so I don’t think the hull has damage.

Could this be trapped water over years, that seem to find its way down there? I’m hesitant to taste it!

I’m sure I’m not the only person with a leak …

Thanks!

Not the same model of Antares as mine but I had a leak in that area. Seawater. It was comming out of the top of the rudder shaft where it exits the top bearing. There was a lip seal in there that had worn. The seal was above the static water level so it never leaked when stationary in the marina but out in a chop water would be forced up. Maybe same issue as yours?

Thanks for the reply ,
All around the rudder/ steering arm is bone dry and the boat has been lifted in and not moved since,
Unfortunately the fuel tank covers up a lot of the hull, which I can’t see under,

It’s not an alarming amount of water but I’m hoping it’s just water that’s mounted up through potentially heavy rain somehow getting in.

I’ve had all sea cock./ skin fitting replaced , and Annode bolts bone dry , and I can’t understand how it could be sea water .

Time will tell :-)

You probably know that the green/yellow cable should be reconnected to the terminal on the rudder shaft to maintain galvanic corrosion protection?

Thanks very much, it’s been on my list of jobs… , It came off, when I was messing about with water down there.

Thanks

Is the boat out of the water ?
Because a boat lies differently on a cradle and the water may pool a long way from the source of the ingress

clean it up with fresh water, dry it

then taste it

could be condensation
If its fresh would not be to worrried.
If its salt might be getting in via a hull fitting ie deck drain and it has been known for water to enter boat only while underway via a badly placed Eberspatcher exhaust hull fitting, this was on a 1990s Princess 360.
Took the owner ages to track down how salt water was filling up the lazerette, only found out when he stuck his head into the compartment while the boat was on the plane with somebody else at the helm.
When under way the eber exhaust hull fitting was under water which was entering via the stainless flexible hose itself.
