I went into Bembridge for the 1st time in a while the other day. Made the entrance at about 90 minutes before HW (4.7m springs).

Having heard about the silting up of the entrance I was pretty cautious although I only draw 5ft. Interestingly the depth showed as 14 ft constant, all the way from the "Gateway bouys" to within about 50m of the narrowest point by the beach where it came right up to 6ft in a matter of a few meters.

I mentioned this to the HM and he just gave the usual warning about staying tucked into the beach, but is does make you wonder when the entrance will become totally impassable,

I took a stroll down at LW and took some pictures which show a pronounced spit sticking out on the stbd side (NW) and well beyond the line between the 2 stbd bouys to either side of it.

The up side was of course that the new pontoon was very nice and convenient ( and empty) and the new shower block at Duver Marina will be open in a week or so.... Power and water on the pontoon so able to vacuum the boat out etc. fill tanks and charge phone great! .......... £20 for 36ft not too bad I spose.

£20, not too bad (and still not any showers)? Bembridge used to be a place for small boats with families, not any longer, we can't afford it. Maybe if it does silt up the prices will come down (fat chance).

How certain is the week or so for the new showers. I thought they said that over 12 months ago. I'm hoping I'll get there at the spring bank holiday.

Hi Vic

Well the shower block looked pretty finished.. apart from that only the HM's word to go on!

Just picking up on alahol2's coment about £20 quid being pricey for a nights stop and Bembridge having once been a family priced stop over... I have to say that for me going in on my own on a 36ft boat, it may appear a bit on the expensive side... but really if he were to go in with his family of say 4 and his Stag28 at poss £15 and use the (albeit at the moment distant) showers and jetty electric/water etc. I really would call that quite fair value.

Ive been in campsites that offer a lot less for more money!

Hope Glen and the lads are still grafting over at Prinstead!

cheers Nick

perhaps they are planning a grand civic opening ceremony like they had for the new block up at the marina.

yep all seems to be running smoothly at the yard although you can hardly say that poor old Glen is grafting, but he's done his fair share in the past. I keep meaning to tell him about his old family firm and your mains'l.

Hi Nick
In 2003 it was £17 for my 28 footer. Quite a shock when we used to pay maybe £6 -£7 on the fishermans pontoon and not much more on the current visitors pontoon before it was attached to the shore.
It's just a bugbear of mine I'm afraid...if you have a look at my website www.troppo.co.uk you'll maybe understand...
