Just got back from SIBS and am really tempted by the bayliner deals in particulay a the 175xt 2005 model. I was curious as to a comment from one of the passing crowd which was "bayliners, binliners". Now unless I am mistaken they had the best deal of the show, best salesmen and a simple but sound quality to them along with plenty of extras including a lifetime hull warranty, 3 year engine warranty etc. Why a binliner then?

Anyway got talking to a salesman from Poole Aquatic's and he was in no hurry to sell the boats but more interested in what I wanted from my boat and if I was local etc. I said I will not be buying until the beginning of next year and to my astonishment he said "no problem". He then said that if I was interested enough he had also second hand bayliners for sale and would even put one on order and payment would be no problem. Then he offered to put my glastron spirit 165 up for brokerage in the meantime with no fee as a trade in still with the mention of no obligation to buy the boat.

He must be a one of a kind salesman!! I just want to know what is anyone else's views on the boats and have any of you got one?(any model) Also anyone had any dealings with Poole Aquatics?

Tristan

Loads of trhreads about Bayliners, almost all possitive. Ignore the binliner thing, it's just what many people think they should say about Bayliners, altho 10 -15 years ago they were not as well built as they are now.

I have a 1990 Bayliner 2665, which I bought about 4 years ago.

At the time I bought it I also read a lot of negative posts about Bayliners and thought great, that means I'm much more likely to get a good deal on a Bayliner than anything else. This proved to be the case in reality.

I looked at a lot of boats of that size of various makes and in terms of layout and use of space it offered more than the other makes I'd seen and even without coonsidering price, was the best I'd seen of the type I was looking for. The fact that it was between £5-10k less than other makes was a nice bonus.

After 4 years use I can honestly say that I am very happy with my decision and have had no problems and really enjoy the boat.

If I ever decide to trade up to something bigger I'd happily consider another Bayliner.

Bill

After looking at a Bayliner 285 at the show I am increasinly convinced that they do offer value for money. Clearly they are built to a price with some of the finishing, e.g poor quality ply and non lined lockers, not living up to the finish of the more expensive boats, but you get's what you pay for.

Bayliner are part of the huge Brunswick group that includes SeaRay, Maxum, SEALINE & Mercruiser which is why they offer Merc engines.

At the end of the day you pays your money and takes your choice.

Hi there.
I too had all the negative comments, but not off this forum I might add. Mines a 89 2655 widebeam, tons of room & well equiped I've been all over in it & its never missed a beat. |At the moment I'm having a new gear set put in the leg as it started to jump out of drive at high speed but on a 15 year old boat still running on the original sterndrive Im not complaining. I wouldent hesitate to buy another one, Ok the furnishing may be a little bit lacking in quality but it more than makes up for it in other aspects. You can buy them in Spain for a song compared to other marques I think theres about 15 of them in my marina. My verdict .......Great value for money boat

2655 ! You can tell me, I'm a Docter !

Went to SIBS Friday and spent a lot of time on the Bayliner stand. I found Chris from Essex boatyards very helpfull, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. After showing us around the 285 and 305 he gave me a brochure and card and said if we wanted any more info, just call. That in its self was quite refreshing after some of the sales tactics from other companies.
As for the boats themselves, I thought they were good value and seemed to be well designed and put together. A few niggles but nothing serious. Its nice to see a boat that comes so well equiped that a few extras don't affect the price too much. I had previously looked at second hand models, one of which was a 1996 boat and none of them were showing any more signs of wear than other makes I've seen.
I think our next boat will be a Bayliner.

Just sold a 1992 2255 ciera after 4 years ownership, hard to find anything to complain about, harder still to find another with such great value.
We will definitely consider another bayliner as would most bayliner owners.
Buy one & enjoy it, there are thousands out there, if there was a problem with them the Americans would have sued bayliner out of buisness by now!
