My early 2000s Bavarias had teak decks and they were only stuck on with Sikaflex. The teak was also very thin, about 6mm. Not sure removal would be such a big issue?

Easy enough to remove but very expensive to replace... I’d guess more than half the value of the boat... You’d still be looking at a hefty bill to use fake teak.

Very true. The Bavaria teak was glued on to the pyramid-pattern non-slip GRP, and removing the glue is a nightmare if you just want to paint the deck.

Don’t think it was actually sikaflex in cockpit as it turned very sticky - might look like sikaflex but not entirely certain it was the genuine item for what it’s worth. Just a shame they didn’t use fake teak in first place maybe.

I own one, Bav 41, 97.
Nice boat if you find one that is not too worn out. Quite sturdy hull. Spacious inside. Very good quality woodworking. All cabins, including the "twin" in the bow, are very comfortable.
Disadvantages - The stachions are poorly attached to the deck. Weak Volvo engine - standard 40 hp with saildrive.

Overall a good boat. It goes out well upwind. Rig - Selden, with a large genoa. Gently enters the wave.
At this age, a lot will depend on a particular specimen, if the boat is in good condition, it is worth buying. If you want ask about this model, you can ask me

Welcome to the forums! And thanks for your comments.

You may already know about it, but if not take a look at the Bavaria Yacht Info forums - there's a wealth of good info there.

One of the better Youtube vlogs is a German guy who crossed the Atlantic both ways in a Holiday 34. Worth a watch IMO even if you're not interested in the boat.
