I've just bought 2 x 150ah batteries to install on the boat each measuring 480mm long / 200mm wide and 200mm tall.
Is it possible to buy battery boxes for this size or am I going to have to make my own.
If I make my own what is the best thing to line them with?

Thanks in advance

Andrew,

I made my own from 18mm marine ply, screwed and glued. There is a lip around the top and the lid bolts down onto a rubber gasket. The inside is painted with epoxy. It is very strong and bolted to the structure of the boat under the floor. The idea is that it should be watertight in the event that I take on water, Acid should not find it's way out in the event that we roll (God forbid!) and there is a vent pipe to take any gassing to a high point under the gunwale...... Hope this helps.

Paul.

Me too.

My battery box forms the lowest step of the companion ladder, just ahead of the engine box. I followed the method given by Nigel Calder and coated the side of the ply which would end up inside the box with epoxy and glass cloth before cutting it out, and filleted the insides after gluing and screwing.

If doing it again I would make the box a couple of inches deeper than it needs to be - over time I have found that some replacement batteries are a little deeper than others of, allegedly, the same dimensions.
