Avon Inflatable age

Apologies if this has been asked before but does anyone know how to decipher the information on the ''rating plate'' on the transom of an Avon? I am trying to verify the age of a second hand one that I am buying. Thanks in advance Steve

Mine is packed away in its valise, but I think you'll find the last two figures give the year of manufacture. Hope this helps.
You can always ring Avon in Llanelli, they're very helpful.

Ring Avon. I did and was rather surprised to find that the X series black boat that I bought for £30.00 on a whim was made in 1965!

I'm retiring it BTW.

the last 2 NUMBERS on the plate are the year. There is usually a letter after the last number. Mine is AVB17716M84J, so was made in 1984. Considering it is 20 years old it is still in remarkably good nick, and holds air for weeks without needing a top up. Excellent piece of kit.
